Today we got briefed our third studio brief titled "Message & Delivery - Research", where we have to choose an article from tomorrows newspapers, and research that topic or theme in detail, creating a body of visual research, and present our information in the form of a booklet, leaflet, or presentation next Friday.
During this research I must consider the articles tone of voice, as this should impact on how I present my research, what kind of method is appropriate for the topic. I must also undertake several kinds of research; statistical research, empirical research (opinions), and personal research (my own and others opinions to the article, what friends think of it). I must also see if this article is featured in other newspapers, national, international or local newspapers, and if it is, then I should compare the two articles, to see the difference in tone, word count, content, and the direction the article is aimed at. I could also see if the story is covered in past editions of newspapers, or future ones later on during the week, and see the different angles different newspapers and publications have taken to the story. Different platforms I could look at to see if the story has been talked about could be YouTube, social media websites such as Facebook or Twitter, TV newscasts, chat shows such as 8 out of 10 cats or have i got news for you, the radio, or short news casts such as the 60 second news on channels such as BBC or Channel 5, also newsround on CBBC or similar programmes, to see how the story has been told to younger or different audiences. To gather more information about the story, if it is in a local newspaper, I could write to the author or editor of the article to see if they can give me any more information that wasn't published in the article. I could also look at comments to the article on websites such as YouTube or Twitter, also on the online version of the article as well. Also, if the story wasn't mentioned in an international newspaper, or a certain platform such as the radio, I should suggest why it wasn't as it could be a really obvious reasons, a small country story about the snow in Scotland for example, isn't exactly going to make worldwide news, and wouldn't be appropriate for it to be in an international newspaper.
I think this is going to be a really interesting task, and I must think carefully about which article I choose, as I must ensure there is a substantial amount of research to be undertaken in it. I must also choose my presentation type carefully, as I don't want to choose a format that will be unsuitable for the topic I have chosen.
