I decided to research messages on cake that have some kind of meaning, such as the Infect Truth campaign from my previous post.
This is the original cake poster which I got my idea from, for the Infect Truth campaign. |
I found it quite hard to find decent messages on cake that weren't apologising for some sexual accident, or something about how old your dad is now.
This is a vague message, that could be related to sexual exploitation, however isn't very informative. |
I found a good range of cakes raising awareness for breast cancer, and supporting those who have it, as cake may be considered more of a feminine thing, and definitely something to be related with breast cancer awareness.
This is an interesting little rhyme on this cake which is both humorous and promotes checking for breast cancer. |
This cake uses the pink ribbon sign for breast cancer in part of the word "fight", including it simply in the design. The phrase "fight like a girl" also makes you feel strong and is also kind of humorous as well as girls typically don't fight very strongly, more scrappy. |
The text on this cake is also humorous, "save the hooters", making fun of a serious situation to make people want to fight it, thinking they can do it. |
This is more of an anatomical diagram than motivational, showing some of the different kinds of breasts. |
This isn't cake but iced cookies looking like baseballs, with the phrase "save 2nd base" to match the baseballs, and a reference to the way American's refer to men touching women's breasts. |
This is a different kind of protesting cake, as it is for someone's 18th birthday and the gummy bears are protesting about being eating, referring it to being like the Holocaust. This could be changed into a more serious issue, with an image of people protesting being 2D rather than 3D as it is now. |
This is similar to the gummy bear protest cake, where the turkey is protesting not to be eaten, perhaps for Christmas. |
I'm not sure what this cake's message is, however I feel it does fit to something, perhaps with social media. |
These photographs have given me a wide variety of ways of how I can portray my message on cake if I decide to go for promoting awareness for causes on cake. I must ensure I photograph the cakes effectively so that the backing papers don't just look like home cooking photographs, but professional images. I must also ensure that my cake designs still keep within the brief, that they must be based on a shape, so I should ensure my designs have a clear shape within them, not just being the shape of the cake.
