Our photograph induction proved to be very useful to me, as before the induction I thought I knew how to take alright photographs, but judging by the fact that I couldn't figure out why I wasn't taking any photographs, and the first photograph I did eventually take with the help from the tutor, I knew absolutely nothing.
First photograph using the DSLR cameras. |
Shallow depth of field, selective focus, blur the background.
Deep depth of field, think landscape, everything sharp
Slow shutter speed, to blur movement
Fast shutter speed, to freeze movement
This may sound pretty easy but it was really difficult to adjust the camera's options such as ISO and shutter speed, and frequency I think it was, so that the camera is able to take such photographs, and not just a black image like my first attempt.
These are some of the photographs I took where I had gotten it wrong with the settings on the camera, and was experimenting with what each button actually does.
Far too bright. |
Too dark. |
Not enough light. |
The cup was supposed to be in focus, not the background. |
Just a little bit too dark. |
Far too much light. |
The baby was supposed to be in focus, and the background blurry. |
Bit bright. Here I was trying to get the lines of headlights travelling through the shot. |
Out of all the awful photographs I took, I did get the settings spot on once or twice. These are the photographs I chose for each of the categories.
Shallow depth of field
Deep depth of field
Slow shutter speed
Fast shutter speed
This photography induction has been really useful to me, as now I have a basic idea of how to take certain types of photographs, which will prove useful for future projects, and that I didn't have the knowledge of how to before, I just keep my own camera on auto, but now I know how to use it a bit more.
