I presented my ideas so far to a group of my peers and two of my tutors to get feedback on what I have done so far, if there is anything I need to change, things that work well, or if my whole idea is wrong. People thought that although I had said I had tried not to make my ideas feminine, as I wanted it to be unisex, my colour schemes didn't make the design appear feminine, even the pink, because of the strong, bold lines of the road, and this contrast in colour between the white roads and the coloured backgrounds. This was really reassuring for me, as I had thought that because paper cut is quite a feminine technique, I didn't want my designs to appear feminine, and I was very conscious that the pink or purple designs would make them look too girly, and wouldn't appeal to men. It was also brought up that I should make sure the content of my map is specific to graphic design students, rather than just creatives in general, so I should perhaps include information about each place that would be relevant to graphic design, such as equipment you can buy from medium that would be useful, or alphabet spaghetti from Sainsbury's as well was also suggested. I don't think I have to make it only relevant to graphic design first year students though, as the brief states "What might you say, do or give to next years graphic design students to make the transition into the student experience, particularly this course more welcoming?", so I understand this as I have to produce something that would help next years first year graphic design students ease better into living in Leeds and starting this course, which I think showing where the arts places, practical places, and social places are would fulfil this without necessarily making it extremely graphic design focused, as I know when I first started on this course I would of found it really useful to know where specific arts places were, even to know of them in fact, to give me a little head start in the course, and help me start to understand and connect with Leeds arts scene.
