OUGD403 STUDIO BRIEF 4 - INCORPORATION OF STUDIO BRIEF 1

When it came to designing my typeface for my text only "plastic not-so fantastic" I used one of my designs from Studio Brief 1 to help me design the shape of the letterforms. I digitalised it and changed some aspects, such as the weight, as my original design has varied weight, to make it similar to Garamond, but my redesigned typeface has equal weights throughout.

Typeface design from Studio Brief 1.

Redesigned typeface for Studio Brief 4.
When producing this typeface digitally I started off by scanning in my original sketches to a computer, and placing guides, using Illustrator, along each line of type to ensure when I drew it it wouldn't be wonky, as my sketch was very wonky. I drew the straight stem of the "P" first and then copied and pasted the top and bottom of the bottle for all my other letterforms, to ensure they were all the same weight and shape and size. For the rounded part of the "P" i used the top and bottom of the copied bottles, put them in place, and then joined them up using the pen tool. I copied the round part of the "P" to make the round part of the "a", and for the rest of my letters I just manipulated the basic bottle shape to suit the letterform, copying parts of one letter to make another, such as the stem of the "t" is the same as the stem of the "f". This made it a lot faster and easier to produce. I also used guides to ensure all the letterforms were the same x-height and the ascenders were all the same height as well.
