OUGD505 STUDIO BRIEF TWO - RESEARCH - ILLEGAL LOGGING IN PERU (WWF)

Illegal logging is a major issue in Peru, with most of the timber that is harvester being done illegally. People who live and work in Peru also more often than not buy illegally harvested timber, and most of the time they don't even know it is illegal. However, Peru is taking a stand against this issue, with it's governments coming together to strengthen it's policies related to forest governance, and creating mechanisms to enforce these stronger policies. These policies also ensure that everyone who is harvesting timber is following the same set of rules.
There are also plans to educate those who live and work in Peru about what they are buying, so they can make informed decisions when purchasing wooden products, and can recognise whether or not it is made from illegally harvester timber.
The government is also creating incentives for people to legally harvest timber.

A new national government agency, the National Forest and Wildlife Service, to address forest-related issues such as stopping illegal logging. The National Pact for Legal Wood aims to have all timber produced by the country to come from legal origins by 2021.
