OUGD505 STUDIO BRIEF TWO - INITIAL GUIDE DIGITAL LAYOUT

After spending so long thinking about the front cover, I moved on to just doing the content pages so that I know what I'm working with. This started off with the effects of deforestation double spread, and finding a centre piece for the title.

These are the bubbles I tried for the title, however the regular shaped ones really don't do anything, they look way too forced. I traced round a tree for the bottom left one, and the branches area holds it all together really well.

I expanded this to see the use of different colours. All black maybe looks too bold and dark, green outline and black text works really nicely with the text still bold but the tree is slightly less bold but still holds it's place and reflects it's true colours, and all green, with slightly darker text green colour works well, however the text doesn't stand out as well as it does when black, perhaps I could make the text a really really dark green, so it's not quite black.

Front cover. This isn't the final idea by any means, but is just a simple representation of what it could look like, and in fact, being so simple, it looks much more fresh and inviting, like it's not trying so hard.

Effects of deforestation double spread. This is really only a rough beginning to see what information I'd like to include, and my issue here is there's so many effects and consequences, I can't possibly include them all, so am struggling to cut it down enough. The tree centre piece has evolved slightly from the initial ideas, and is filled green with black text, as with the outline it got lost amongst the text. The fill colour allows it to be much bolder and act actually as a bubble rather than a frame.

How to tell if your wood is legally and sustainably sourced single page. The different organisations and certificates are listed with the appropriate logos shown alongside. This is still in the early stages, however I feel like I really need to do something to make it look more interesting and fun. The tips and tricks page is blank at the moment as I need to find the tips and tricks. I'm hoping these two tips and tricks pages will be more illustration based with minimal text, making the guide more visual and interesting so people actually want to read it.

Tips and tricks will continue onto the blank page here. Organisations you can support. This uses the same layout as how to tell if your wood is legally and sustainably sourced, with the organisation and then a little bit about what they do below, and with the logo tot he right. There were so many organisations I could include, I picked the most prominent and that need the most funding. With this page and the other one with the same layout, I didn't know if it would work better aesthetically if the logo were to the left side, almost acting as bullet points I guess, as I had difficulty making the logos look like they're at home, not out of place.

Back cover. Am hoping that the photograph will line up with the front cover, so you'll get a full photograph but spread over the whole cover. I was also unsure what other information to include on the back cover, maybe a hotline or something, although am really not sure.

Getting started with the content was a real relief, as it means that I actually have something, rather than am yet to start. There is still a lot of work to do however on the layout and sourcing the tips and tricks pages as well, which I think will be my next move. I am also going to sketch out the effects of deforestation spread, to see how I can make it look more fun and cut down the text.
