OUGD404 DESIGN PRINCIPLES BRIEFING

This is the first Design Principles brief I have been given, titled "Visual Literacy, Visual Language". It is broken down into two Studio Briefs, the first being titled "What is visual literacy?" and the second "What is a book?".

There are several learning outcomes for this module, they are:
4A5 Demonstrate an understanding of visual literacy and visual language in relation to the visual investigation of ideas and concepts.
4B4 Identify and evaluate individual creative concerns in relation to set problems and graphic design contexts.
4C5 Develop and present a body of work that demonstrates the ability to practically investigate and apply identified design principles to specific problems.
4D4 Effectively communicate informed opinions and critical awareness through appropriate methods of documentation, reflection and self-evaluation.

During the first brief "What is Visual Literacy?" I will be introduced to a range of fundamental Design Principles, such as the anatomy of type, colour theory, frame and format, and type and grid, through lectures, seminars and workshops.
During the second brief "What is a book?" I will use my knowledge developed in the first brief to develop, I will produce and present a personal visual investigation into Graphic Design Principles. My work should demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between type, image, format and content in response to a set brief.

The first task I have been set as part of Studio Brief one was to choose 3 different typefaces that all have unique differences to one another, in preparation for next weeks seminar where we will be discussing their similarities and differences in groups, and comparing and contrasting each others three chosen typefaces.
