OUGD403 STUDIO BRIEF 1 - INITIAL RESEARCH

Initially I started off by researching what “social” actually meant, what it means to be social, sociable, or unsociable.

Define: Social “noun: an informal social gathering, especially one organised by the members of a particular club or group. adjective: needing companionship and therefore best suited to living in communities.”
Define: Sociable “noun: an informal social gathering. adjective: willing to talk and engage in activities with other people; friendly.”
Define: Unsociable “adjective: not enjoying or making an effort to behave sociably in the company of others.”

I chose to pursue the direction of sociable rather than unsociable as I thought this would be more appropriate for Garamond, and I thought I could have a lot of fun making it look friendly. I also went for this direction because I myself am more sociable rather than unsociable, I think of myself as a friendly, easy to get along with kind of person, rather than one that sits in the corner quietly ignoring the world. I thought it would make more sense to go with a characteristic that I thought applied to myself, as I could put more personality into my work.
