Today I have had my final critiques for Studio Brief four, where I had to produce three posters to portray a message from my newspaper article.
I thought I got all really positive feedback from my peers and a tutor, which I was really pleased with as I feel I have worked really hard on these poster designs.
One of my peers said that he really liked how my image only poster shocks you to look at it, which was true, as soon as I held it up everybody reacted immediately to it, either by inhaling or muttering something along the lines of "wow" under their breaths as an immediate reaction to it. He also said that it made you never want to have plastic surgery, how shocking the image is, it would immediately put you off.
Someone else commented that they liked how I hadn't used a traditionally bright red colour scheme for my posters, but have gone for a more pinky colour instead, as it makes my designs a bit more unusual. They also said that the colours I have chosen all work well together, which is really positive.
Another of my peers said that my posters all work well as a unit, but also individually as well. They all make sense on their own, but together convey they same message, which I found a bit tricky getting the text only and text and image posters to work with my image only, so I am glad that I have achieved this successfully.
I got really positive feedback on my use of type. A lot of people said that it is evident I have put a lot of time and effort into designing the typeface, and that my idea behind the typeface is a really good idea. Someone also commented how they liked how my typeface was made out of plastic bottles, as this is another reference to my topic, and was also clever how I used an idea from Studio Brief two to create this typeface.
One of my peers also said that my text only poster was a really good cultural reference, to the Barbie girl song everyone knows, helping to link my message and idea to cultural icons, and icons of plastic surgery, or looking obviously beautiful.
Several people also commented that the message is really clear in all of my posters, and that the images, especially the image only poster, is really powerful and shocking, and the message is especially jarring.
Overall I am really very pleased with my posters, as I am chuffed with how they have came out, and my peers and tutors also think that my posters are very effective and convey a powerful message as well.
