OUGD405 STUDIO BRIEF 1 - DIGITALISATION OF IDEAS

After my initial designs I started digitalising them to see how they would work using photographs, which is how I would produce my backing paper.

Here I have created digital versions of my spoon, measuring scales, oranges and rolling pin designs. In drawn version, the circular oranges design looks a lot better than the digital version. The digital version looks forced, not natural. I think the scales works really well, especially with the pale blue colours. I found it really hard to find a photograph of a rolling pin on it's side, so this was the closest I could find, and this makes this design look rubbish and very dull, not exciting at all.

Here I have digitalised the cupcake and egg designs. I like the cupcake on a plate looks really interesting and I like how the circular plate contrasts with the square frame. I think this works really effectively. The designs where the image fills the whole of the frame snugly, I feel don't work as well as the other designs as they don't fit exactly to the frame and look a bit forced and unnatural. I also don't really like the egg in a square frame design either, the square looks too sharp against the rounded egg shape.

I then experimented with fridge magnet letters as well, making statements out of these magnet letters. I thought this could be a way of communicating a message effectively.

Here I have applied statements to cakes and fridge doors as a way of communicating a message in a way that you wouldn't expect. This is only a mock up of how it would work, if I choose to pursue this design then I would actually bake a cake and write on the statement using icing, or take a photograph with the fridge magnet letters actually on the fridge. At the moment it looks a bit slapped on.
