After doing research into Stop the Traffik and The Truth, I started thinking about other serious topics I could produce backing paper on, that were possibly more relevant to photo frames. To record these ideas I produced a mind map.
I thought about models, or modelling, how torturous the modelling industry is, and how most models are concerned about being skinny. I thought about breast and prostate cancer after my huge success with finding cakes supporting those causes. I also thought about saving the rainforest ideas, tree conservation, especially with things like toilet paper, for example Velvet's 3 tree promise. I also recorded my previous ideas of human trafficking, stopping youth smoking and health facts. |
I thought that the theme I had more ideas for was the save the rainforest idea, which I think relates really well with photo frames, as I could promote environmentally friendly wooden photo frames, using recycled paper as the backing paper.
I then went on to research existing posters and promotional campaigns for saving trees.

This is a cute little poster design of an angry squirrel. The style of this poster does look like of unprofessional however, especially with the typography on the protest board, however I like the bright colours that have been used. |
This is a poster for World Forestry Day, and similarly to the poster before it uses very bright colours, although they are of a lighter shade than the previous poster. This gives it a more happy appearance, rather than looking dull and morbid. I like the quote on this poster, which is very philosophical and perhaps I could use it in my own designs. |
This is more of an image than a poster, of trees put together to look like lungs, as without tree's and greenery we would find it very difficult to survive as we do now. I think this is a very powerful image and is also very simple, one that I think would work really well as backing paper. I could perhaps produce the same image of lungs out of photographs of leaves maybe, or other woodland things. However trying to get photographs of green leaves in late November may prove difficult. |
This image brings in both environmental issues and technology, as one of the main reasons why rainforests are getting cut down. I like the simplicity of this image, how quickly it gets to the point, and how strong the message is, how hard it hits home that we are destroying nature. |
This is another interesting idea of creating a powerful image. I like how the letters have been made out of grass, this is something I could easily reproduce myself, and would still look effective once photographed and manipulated on Photoshop. |
I couldn't ever reproduce this photograph to use for backing paper, however it is really powerful to see just how much the world has changed, and how many trees have been cut down, especially during the past century. |
This poster is really powerful, which is achieved by it's use of italic and bold typefaces combined together to create impact. I like how the text fits almost within the width of the tree trunk, as it gives the impression of it almost being written on the tree. The image in the background gets the message across without the use of text nearly, but at the same time doesn't make the text less legible. |
Researching different posters and images to do with deforestation has been really useful to me as if has given me an idea of the kinds of things that are already out there. I especially like the lungs made out of tree's image, as I think this is simple and powerful and gets the message across effectively. I think this will be the route I will go down in ways of imagery, perhaps recreating this design with broccoli for example, as it would be pretty hard to get photographs of trees at that angle, broccoli is a close second. I could also use other natural things to create this image, such as carrots or leaves and bark. I could also produce different kinds of images with these objects, such as a heart or a tree, or even an eye, to look as if people are watching you, or the tree's are watching you. I think this will be a really interesting project if I can get my imagery right.
