I had my final critiques for Stdio Brief 1 on Friday and got some really good feedback off my group and tutor. A major point that was raised was that photo frame backing paper is designed to SELL, it's a form of packaging, and to make it sell it must suit the frame it is in. It was suggested that I put my designs in a more vintage style frame, one that looks as though it has been refurbished or is made from natural wood. Someone also suggested that I should of included some way or raising money on my backing paper, as it is all about raising awareness of deforestation, so I could of included a charities website or donation page on my design that puts money into stopping deforestation. My tutor made an excellent point, one of which I should of thought about previously, and it was that if my backing paper designs are raising awareness for deforestation, then by me printing my designs onto normal printing paper, then this is going completely against what my designs are promoting, and my backing paper designs are actually contributing to deforestation rather than trying to stop it. Following on from this specific bit of feedback I am going to find some paper that has been made from recycled paper and use this to print my designs on instead after the weekend, so that raising awareness of deforestation if apparent in the entirety of my designs, rather that just the design itself.
Another way that was suggested I could make my presentation look more recycled, was that I could use vintage frames to present my designs in, ones that can be bought from a shop selling reclaimed furniture and house accessories possibly. I think this is a marvellous idea, and I would go out and buy such frames, however it is an added expensive that isn't fully necessary. What I aim to do instead is find photographs of what appear to be reclaimed frames and apply my designs to them on Photoshop, or go out and photograph reclaimed frames myself, then insert my design into them afterwards.
Finally, one of my peers commented that they liked how my backing paper designs conveyed a message, as most other people had just created a nice looking image, rather than making it into a message.
I am pleased with my feedback and feel I can improve from this before the final module deadline.
