OUGD406 STUDIO BRIEF 3 - FINAL PRESENTATION CRITIQUES

As a group we presented all of our final designs and products to a group of second year students and one of our tutors, pitching our branding identity to them to win the brief.

This is our presentation:

We got some really constructive feedback from the second years and our tutor, which we aim to build upon for the module submission after Easter.
It was suggested that for the body copy, where we used Garamond, to contrast against the very contemporary style of the rest of our branding, perhaps this was a little too severe in contrast to Bebas Neue, our sans serif typeface, and maybe a more subtler and contemporary serif would be more appropriate, and soften the contrast.
To cut down printing costs, it was suggested that because we have a cream coloured element to our designs, instead of printing this onto white stock, which is more costly instead of printing just one colour, black, we could print on a creamier coloured stock, perhaps newsprint, which would eradicate the need for an extra cream colour, as our designs work well in just back and white as well. It was also suggested that to cut down costs we could screen print the booklet especially, and also perhaps the posters as well, as this is a lot cheaper than printing in the digital print room. However if we were to screen print, it was raised that some of our designs, especially the sphere wouldn't print very well because of the fine stroke weight, and also the text might not print very well either because of the small point size in the programme. But for the posters they thought screen printing would be a much cheaper method of production.
Someone also commented that we should just stick to either the sphere design or the more geometrical book shaped design, as at the moment it looked like the two were competing a bit. We did explain that the sphere is key to explaining the concept of the design, however I do agree we should limit the use of the sphere design to only one or two pieces, rather than more so that it is clear what the logo is. I was suggested we could use the dots on the points of the book shaped logo to still keep the meaning of the exhibition. I think this could prove to be an interesting combination of the two designs.
Someone commented that they thought the content of the booklet was really interesting and a good idea, as we had included a bit about Leeds College of Art and the Graphic Design degree as well as the exhibitors and the exhibition, so people who weren't from Leeds College of Art had a bit of insight into who has actually created these prints.
They thought how we had distinguished between the Level 4 and 5 students by applying the colour slightly differently worked really well, as it highlights the two years on the course. This was shown in the name plaques and also the brochure as well, to keep a continuous appearance.
They also commented that how we had promoted the exhibition on banners both indoors and outdoors was very effective, as this is a major way of advertising the exhibition, so it was good that we had recognised this.

overall I was very pleased with the way the pitch had gone, as I felt we had fulfilled all of the criteria of the brief and that we had worked well as a group to achieve this.
