Following on from previous experimentations with colour and added details to this logo in progress, further explorations were undertook into the actual layout of the logo, specifically with it being on two lines rather than one, and also the use of colour as well as the neon effect, as the neon effect may not work as well as simple colour when produced in black and white, because of the detail the colour gives.

The development for the Prostitute Laundry logo involved producing the logo in full neon, so if it was produced in black and white it would have a continuous aesthetic. The application of an underline underneath "laundry" was also tried, to give more finality to the logo, so it doesn't float, which works effectively in grounding it, providing a definite end. The logo was also produced with "prostitute" in bright pink and "laundry" in black, to see if the urban, red light district style the neon effect gives could be achieved similarly by using just the colour pink, which may work better when printed black and white, as there would be less contrast between the two parts of the logo. |
 |
These same adaptations were applied to the "nightmare brunette" logo, as the style of logo should work across all three book titles, to create a continuous aesthetic. |
 |
Again these styles were applied to the third book title, "the cord", however this was more challenging, being a considerably shorter title, there wasn't as much to work with. Also with the first of the two words of the title being "the" instead of an actual word, should the emphasis be on this word and produce it in neon or bright pink, or "cord", which is the more powerful word of the two, however this would go against the other two logos. |
 |
This same two line layout was also created for the hand rendered logo designs, as this is still an option for the logo, however it doesn't have the same effect as the typeface designs do, as it;s a lot more uneven and the kerning is a lot closer being hand writing, it just all looks rather cramped, especially on a smaller scale. The Cord logo also proved very difficult to create on two lines, as it doesn't slot together well like the other two logos do, so "the" was placed inside the "C" and "d" on a smaller scale instead to try and rectify this, however it just looks a bit odd and misplaced. |
Feedback:
Posting these updates on the Graphic Design LCA Facebook group page meant peers could access these updated designs without having to be in university, so everyone could see them regardless of whether they were at university or not.
It was commented that the typeface designs with black and normal pink coloured were the more effective ones, as the neon aspect looks too crowded when scaled down. They suggested that the neon effect could be used to specific occasions, where a larger scale is more appropriate. Another peer said they preferred the plain black typeface designs, as they were simple and minimal.
The general consensus was that the designs where black and pink colouring, with no neon effect were the most effective, as they were simple and easy to read. For the occasions where the logo would have to be printed in black and white, the simple black typeface design will be used, to save the pink part of the logo printing in a lighter grey.
