These are the final logo designs for Prostitute Laundry by Charlotte Shane, both the colour and black and white versions. The simple logo designs won out over the LED effect ones, because they were much more clean and professional looking which is something Shane is trying to portray. You still get the almost urban feel from the neon pink colour in the colour logos, however it is much more understated and subtle, and will work much easier on different coloured background and on different scales because of this.
The logo was then applied to several different products, to show how it will work in the real world, rather than just on a computer screen.

This is the book as imagined it would be sold, with the simple black and white logo used, so as to achieve maximum impact in the contrasting colours. Charlotte Shane's name is applied in uppercase serif Baskerville Regular, to emphasise the classiness and strength of the writer and her book. This also makes it look not too girly either with the cursive typeface logo. |
 |
This logo was also applied to another different coloured book cover, to see if it works just as effectively against a colour other than light pink, which it definitely does. The joy of the logo being purely black and linear means it will look clean and contemporary against any coloured or patterned background. |
Book covers with coloured logo.
Creating book covers with the coloured logo was important to show how the colour would work applied to a product, not just for the prostitute laundry logo but also for nightmare brunette and the cord as well. The book cover itself was created in a very light grey, so it didn't look too clinical being white, but still allowed the logo to stand out, being a neutral colour.
Business cards.

The logo was then applied to business cards, to see how it looked on a smaller scale, and it is perhaps even more effective being on this smaller scale, as you can read the logo a lot more clearly being slightly larger, and without so much white space around it. Charlotte Shane's information on the back is in the same typeface as her name on the spine of the book, Baskerville Regular, to create continuity. Everything is centrally aligned, as the logo is generally aligned, and her name is long enough that it fits nicely being centrally aligned. |
A fair amount of experimentation went into producing this logo, as I thought initially that just using a typeface for a logo was too simple, there wasn't enough to it, however since finishing this brief, I have learnt that simple is sometimes best, and as long as I have undergone that development to explore different ideas, ending up with the simplest idea isn't a bad thing at all. Having the logo in a black and white and coloured variation means it will be easily applied to any collateral available, on any coloured background, but still have the possibility of the coloured variation for products with a more neutral coloured background such as website, business cards, book cover etc.
