OUGD504 STUDIO BRIEF FOUR - BAND CHOICE

It has taken quite a while to get into this brief as with finishing a responsive brief to a deadline that was the focus, and finishing off touches to studio brief three, as well as COP as well.
However finally a band has been chosen.
To choose a band, I didn't want one that was really well known initially, as there can be a lot of connotations and fans behind a well known band, who only want things done in a specific way, I wanted a lot more creative freedom, rather than to stick to the exact same imagery style.
Because of this, research was undertook into bands which had interesting names, which could result in some really interesting imagery being produced about them.
These bands included:

The Paper Kites

The Paper Kites band name concocts intriguing imagery, however the website looks very urban and a electronic, however this could be the style of music.

Bear's Den

Bear's Den was really intriguing, with the hand written, scrawled typeface for their logo, and the muted, natural colours for both their website and album. Their website at the moment is also very simple, with not a lot making it look inspiring, so there is room for improvement there. The name is also interesting, with a lot of imagery related to it that could be used in the campaign website or part of the campaign itself.

Little May

Little May also has an interesting name, which sounds a lot more delicate than the website itself looks, so perhaps this is a changing point here.

The Lake Poets

This website is very dark, and the show dates take centre stage rather than the name of the band, which seems very odd.

Dawn Landes

Dawn Landes has a relatively minimal website, with clear white space, and images filling the gaps. All of her photographs have shades of red, and this is reflected onto the website as well, as you can see with the social media hotspot tabs in the top right. This is an element that could be taken through to the campaign website, something that is continuous throughout.

BOY

BOY is a very modern looking website, very urban and neutral despite the fact that there are two women on the front of the home page.

After this research, the band that intrigued me the most was Bear's Den, as this has the unique name with a lot of relatable imagery that could be useful in the campaign. Their current appearance is also very hand rendered, with their previous album covers having just one colour themed illustration for the cover, which looks like it's been produced using watercolour of some sort of paint medium. This could lead to some interesting hand rendered work for the campaign website which is unique to anything else.
The next stage will be to research more into Bear's Den, how they came about, the kind of theme and style of their music, and ideologies they stand by etc, to get an idea of what kind of interactive aspect for the campaign website could be created.
