OUGD504 STUDIO BRIEF FOUR - EVALUATION

This brief has been very different to anything else I have produced before, mainly due to it being a web design brief, which I have never done before, which resulted in the discovery of so many different things you have to think about with web design that don't come into the equation with design for print, such as interaction with the design and moving aspects. It was really useful because of this that we had two visiting professionals to discuss user experience and design for web with us, which showed us the basics and what is actually involved in web design and user experience, as this is something that I haven't experienced before, so it was good to hear this from professionals first hand.
The overall aesthetic of the website is something that I am pleased with, as it fits in with the existing aesthetic of the band but takes it's own twist on it with this new album. It is minimal but has a hand rendered appearance, which makes it contemporary but still have that hand crafted touch to it, something that was being aimed for.
Time management was also a lot better for this brief than the previous ones, as I found it a lot less complicated somehow, perhaps as I had a clear idea of what I was doing. This resulted in the brief being finished shortly after the final crits and before we broke up for Christmas.
If I'd of had a bit more time I would of liked to of produced the website on a prototyping software such as justinmind, to make it actually move and work like a normal website, to get a better idea of how it would look when developed and produced. However I have no idea how to do anything like that, and never managed to find the time to learn how to use it, so stuck to using software that I know and was confident with.
An aim for this brief was to develop more technical skills, such as creating GIF's, which I have achieved in a small way, as I created a GIF for the title screen, with the logo appearing to write itself, which was my first attempt at anything that moves, and it worked fairly well. In time I'd want to improve these skills and produce more professional GIF's to accompany and support static design.
I also aimed to work with more traditional methods in this brief, rather than going straight for the digital approach, which has been achieved as the islands were produced using watercolour paints, and the sea as well initially, so these experiments were undertaken. I'd of like to of experimented with more analogue techniques however, perhaps to try different solutions, maybe screen printing the islands instead however the time just wasn't there for this to be done.
