OUGD504 MODULE EVALUATION

This module has posed it's challenges yet also had it's highlights as well, and forced me to learn new skills in order to progress and produce more high standard outcomes. At the beginning of the module time management skills were not up to scratch for the amount of work that was given, which lead to working on briefs that should of finished instead of starting the newest brief. This definitely posed a problem and meant I had to play catch up later on in the module, which may of impacted progress on other modules as a result.
Something I am proud of doing is trying out producing a GIF for the first time, which was an aim for the brief it was produced for, so achieving this aim and trying something technically new is a great achievement for me, rather than just sticking to what is already known and safe.
A major issue that was faced was the actual production of the publication in studio brief three. The idea and design was solid, however due to the amount of pages in the publication, this posed issues with oversplay, which resulted in a two pamphlet book being produced, which then lead to issues with the front cover, resulting in a whole new front cover, or lack of a front cover, for the publication, which was not what was wanted for it. If there were more time left for this module, then that would be something that would be changed and fixed, so that a two pamphlet book would be created, but with an integrated front cover that is desired, rather than a makeshift one.
In studio brief three, I also would of like to of experimented more with pamphlet stitching and coptic binding, as when I bound my final publication, this was the first time I had used that stitch, and was making it up as I go along, roughly following a step by step guide. It would of been very beneficial to me to have some practice of that before the final publication was bound, which may of resulted in a more professional looking bound, one that at least didn't have any slack in it.
Studio brief four is the brief that I was the most pleased with, which was surprising as I always think that more practical outcomes are my speciality, what I enjoy the most, however this brief's digital outcome was one I was most proud of, and enjoyed doing as well, having to not just think about it on an aesthetic level, but how things moves, how the user interacts with it. Adding the hand rendered aspect to it as well brought in my love to analogue techniques, and stopped the design from appearing too clinical and static, it added that extra level to it.
In other modules an aim is to experiment more with new techniques whether they be digital or analogue, to try new things and broaden my skill set, which could lead to more interesting and adventurous outcomes. Researching more is another aim, not necessarily researching more, but researching a broader range of things and especially more creative people in general not just one piece of their work and only briefly stating their name. This will help with the PPP aspect of this course as well, and broaden my knowledge of different creatives within the creative industry, not just the iconic, famous names. Time management also needs to be improved for the rest of this course, to ensure that briefs aren't rushed to finish, but I can do all the things I want to do within reason for each brief.
