OUGD505 STUDIO BRIEF ONE - BANK NOTE DEVELOPMENT

From the outlines produced from the photographs, these were added to the banknote, the size taken from the current Brasilian Real notes.

2 reais designs, I wanted to use plants which weren't sure a statement, smaller plants, to reflect the amount of the note. So I chose sugarcane, saprophytes which are basically fungai, and Bromeliads which grow on other trees. I wasn't sure which looked the most fitting, so these three images were explored to find out.

5 reais design. The trumpet tree was used for this amount, as it is a very pretty plant however doesn't have a lot of cultural significance compared to other plants.

10 reais design. The cocoa tree was used for this amount, as cocoa and coffee is something Brasil is really famous for.

20 reais design. The Brasil nut tree features on the 20, the highest amount I aim to produce, as this is a main feature for Brasil, and the tree is very impressive in itself. I used Brusho to add the colour, and I didn't quite get the sizings right, so it looks a bit off place. I think I need to print out the outline so that I can work from it to produce more accurate paintings.

Other elements:

I added the text, which was taken from existing Brasil bank notes.

I thought there was a bit too much white space so copies the outline for the plant over in a very light grey, which could be printed using UV spot varnish to add a subtle texture.

I tried the repeated outline in a light green, the colour of the plant, to see if a bit of added colour would work better, however I think it contrasts too much against the dark text, and may look weird once the Brusho is added.

5 reais note with added pattern.

10 reais with added pattern.
The next stage will be to add the Brusho to the printed out outlines and then see what they look like, whether the outline is covered properly or can still be seen and what this means.
