I took a quick trip to Manchester to buy recycled stock for this brief, visiting
Marc the Printers and
Fred Aldous.

This is the stock I bought from Marc the Printers, light green for the front cover, brown textured also for a potential cover, and off white straw for the content pages. Whilst in the shop, I felt quite pressured to leave, like even asking for another colour was like asking them for the world, so I got a bit flustered and didn't get enough stock sadly, which resulted in my going to Fred Aldous to find more recycled stock. However I am pleased with what I did get from Marc the Printers, and the price and variety of stock was great. |

This is the stock I got from Fred Aldous. Luckily, the middle stock, off white straw textured is exactly the same as the one that I bought from Marc the Printers, or as far as I can see, which is really lucky. However, the pistachio colour on the left is Colourplan by G F Smith and not recycled, so perhaps I will use this for colour test prints. I also bought some green tracing paper, as I thought I could experiment with this for a front cover, perhaps alongside the green coloured stock. However this also isn't recycled, so maybe I should only experiment with it if I have time but focus on the main recycled guide first. |
This trip was really useful to get the stock that I needed, and them some varieties as well which I can experiment with. I also bought some green thread as well which I could use for binding if I discover that saddle stitch is more environmentally friendly than staple bound. And even if it's not I can still experiment with it's aesthetic if I have spare time. I am going to not really use this stock for test prints, but save it for the final designs so as to make the most of it.
