I recently had my final critiques on studio brief 3, where I had to present a body of research about my chosen article, in this case my article was about a British woman dying during cosmetic surgery in Thailand last week.
I wasn't very pleased with my presentation and outcomes myself, I thought I could of had a better layout of my design boards, so that the information flowed better, and was easier to understand, for both me and the people hearing about my research. I also thought I should have done a survey amongst my graphic design year and also friends and family as well, to see if any of them would ever get cosmetic surgery, and if they would go abroad to get it if so, however this only occurred to me when it was too late, and I had ran out of time. I also felt like I could have researched deeper in some areas, rather than doing a little bit of everything, which could affect Studio Brief 4 for me.
The feedback I got was that my research was a little bit too broad, and that I should have specified one area and research that in depth. Others thought my research was very interesting, which it was,and I had thoroughly enjoyed researching about cosmetic surgery. My peers suggested I should have done some primary research, which reinforced my own thoughts, so next time I have any research to do I will make sure I do plenty of primary research. My tutor also suggested that I should have presented my research in a way that made it flow smoother, so that one point led into another, rather than just jumping from one point to another. A story about two people competing against one another to look like Barbie also came up, a story I've not heard of before, but could be something to research as a follow up to this brief.
All of this feedback has been really useful to me, and when I have my next research brief I will be able to undertake it a lot more professionally and efficiently, now that I know what I shouldn't do.
