Before starting research for this next studio brief, a mind map was created outlining the potential directions, to see which has the most depth and which is most interesting to me.
It was thought about researching obesity, as this is something I find fascinating. This thinks about the causes of obesity, and the health complications. I researched into obesity and fast food for a previous project in college, and found it really interesting and the range of potential outcomes was interesting. This means that I have an already existing base knowledge of obesity, so it would be more like refreshing the facts and digging deeper in a specific area.
It was also thought about the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. This is interesting to me as I have family from Brasil, which the Amazon stretches into, and family who have visited the rainforest itself, so this would be almost connecting to my past. There are also so many areas you can research about the Amazon, such as logging within in, the effect on wildlife, what the rainforest is being chopped down for, and where does all that wood go?
Other areas to research were human trafficking, which I have also researched in the past and there was a lot more research to be done than was initially realised. Another area is the free the nipple campaign, which argues the difference of male vs female nipples being shown on social media. This is a very current issue, however I fear there may not be many solid facts surrounding this. Other areas include animal testing in the cosmetics industry, and public transport in the UK vs the rest of Europe, and how we can learn from other countries such as the Netherlands.
Following from this mind map I am going to pursue the Amazon Deforestation idea, as this is something close to me, and there are documentaries about this issue which will prove useful for potential imagery and getting a second hand look at the rainforest and what we've done to it.
