Idea generation:
|
I started out by sketching some initial design ideas based on the current aesthetic of the guide, however I quickly realised that I didn't know the reasoning behind producing the posters, the exact reasoning. Therefore, a mind map was produced showing the different paths I could go down with the poster, such as something people can put up showing they're supporting the rainforest, which is sent out with the guide on the post and email. Another being to persuade people to save the rainforest, perhaps to advertise sustainability. Another being to raise awareness of deforestation, showing what the rainforest has to offer or what's actually happening to it now. A final idea could be to give facts about the rainforest to gain interest and people's attention about the subject. After thinking about all the options, it was decided that the poster to put up so people can show their support will be the one I will produce, as this is the most relevant to the guide that's being produced for companies who import wood. Of course, all of the posters could ideally be produced, but it's just a matter of time. |
Initial digital designs:
Following on from the initial sketches and mind map, some digital designs were produced as a starting point.
Patterns:
I started out by producing patterns using the leaves I drew for the cover, as I thought this would form a good background image that links the guide and posters together, whilst still being relevant.
Application & designs:
The patterns were then applied to the poster designs, to see how effective they look in practice.
|
The title for the poster was inspired by the "vote" study task that was undertaken a few weeks back, as the posters were for a similar purpose, to show support, and the wording is very strong and definite, there's not question in it. The typefaces were used in the same way as the front cover of the guide, creating continuity in design across the different outcomes. The white bubble however looks a bit odd and off balance in comparison to the structured rest of the poster. |
|
Slightly wobbly white box was used instead, which creates a much more balanced appearance, and to start with you don't notice it's not a perfect rectangle, as the pattern hides the wobblyness effectively. |
|
Experimented with a different pattern to see the effect, and using a banner as the white background, to see if an even more structured appearance works more effectively in creating impact. However, now this just remind me of a book cover, as the banner looks like it could be a sleeve to a book cover. |
These poster designs definitely need some revisions and feedback, as at the moment they need something to make them stand out more.
